Initiatives for SDGs

SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), unanimously adopted by the member countries of the United Nations General Assembly in September of 2015 and set forth in the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development," are international goals aimed at creating a better, more sustainable world by the year 2030.
Made up of 17 goals and 169 targets, SDGs vows to "leave no one [on the entire planet] behind."

Japan Chemical Industries intends to meet the expectations of its stakeholders by contributing to the achievement of a sustainable society, through the development and provision of products that create a safe, comfortable lifestyle.
Realization of the SDGs, which aim to create a better, sustainable society, is also consistent with our company creed's aspiration of "Harmony." We believe that initiatives for the SDGs through our businesses also enhance our corporate value, so we plan to actively engage in such initiatives.

Initiatives through business

  • 3. Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
■Development of sanitary chemical products and global deployment

To protect people's health by protecting against infectious diseases, we will develop and globally deploy sanitary chemical products that are focused on antibacterial and antiviral capabilities and which can be used in a variety of settings.

  • 9. Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation
■Contribution to industry and technological innovation through a coolant for new energy vehicles.

We will contribute to building a foundation for an energy-diversified society through a coolant developed for electric cars and fuel-cell vehicles, supplying it to numerous automotive manufacturers as well as a wide variety of other industries.

  • 12. Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns
■Contribution to a recycling-oriented society through our cleaning business

We will contribute to the advancement of reuse (waste reduction) by cleaning a variety of parts from aging machines that have lost functionality over the years, giving them new life.

  • Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
■Reduction in greenhouse gas emissions

We will globally deploy fuel additives to clean automobile engine interiors, which are expected to improve exhaust emissions as well as fuel efficiency.

In addition, we will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by promoting a paperless office within JCI and by electrifying product- and raw material-delivery vehicles and other company vehicles.

Initiatives to build a solid business foundation

Work environment maintenance to enable equal opportunities to all gender and age

We will improve the employment emvironment for all gender and age to play active role by making better facilities and equipment for family-related, such as childcare and nursing care.

Reduction of depletable energy consumptions

Including the change of the heavy oil boilers in the production process, while promoting energy-efficient plant design,we actively adopt renewable energy sources and try to reduce depletable energy consumption.

Review the working environment and systems, and create a company where "people want to work"

By creating a comfortable work environment without high-stress, high-risk, developing teleworking environments, and providing educational programs, we aim to promote work-life integration and create a "company you want to work for" that enables both self-realization and corporate growth.

■Procurement and adoption of raw materials and materials with low environmental load

To reduce environmental load, we will adopt low-carbon raw materials, optimize container materials, and review product sales methods.

Initiatives for Environment

Toward the realization of a decarbonized (carbon neutral) society

JCI will contribute to creating an earth-friendly and sustainable society while planning a reduction of environmental burdens by thorough "energy-saving action" and "renewable energy installation"

JCI will actively take initiatives toward the realization of a completely carbon-neutral supply chain under Scopes 1 & 2 as well as Scope 3.
As of April 1, 2022, JCI has achieved the goal of "100% Renewable Energy" for electricity used by JCI headquarters.
Thanks to this, we have managed to cut the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by the entire JCI headquarters by 80%.
Furthermore, JCI aims to "achieve zero net carbon dioxide emissions" at its factories.
In addition, in its overseas activities, JCI will make efforts toward "net zero carbon emissions from its factories worldwide."
